Most of my riding is done early in the morning in the dark which means I can’t read my watch or see my cycling computer so watching my intervals is a bit of a challenge. I do also listen to music (yeah I know some people hate it) while riding though so my iPod is an option for intervals.

I ended up finding a pretty great iPod/iPhone app to build/time your intervals on called UltraTrainer.

Ultra trainer not only lets you build different timers (warmup, cool down, times at RPE levels) but also lets you combine multiple timers into timer groups.

So to build my Threshold Ladders workout I put the warmup, threshold, and all done timers together into a workout.

If you’re looking for a way to get audible cues for your intervals check this app out. You can even record your own audible cues if you want. I still need to get a mic for my iPod so that I can record a cue for each interval. I figure I’ll record an audio cue that says what the RPE is for the interval.

Check out some screenshots.
